understand that you have received information from the Local

Gevarneant to the effect that the British Government. will only

daan allow the delivery of new buildings to neutral power

provided they are chartered to British firms, at half market

rate from readiness watii six months after termination of the

War.

This is indeed very discouraging information to receive,

and we sincerely hope you will use your utmost influence with

the Local Government in order to induce the authorities to

reconsider the matter and duly point out to then the facts, which we think will speak in favour of granting exemption in

sonnection with the four buildings already contracted for. The

contracts for the said four ships were, as you will know, concluded during June/July 1918, and the ships should have been delivered 12 to 14 months after contracts were signed.

The materials for the ships were all ordered fron

Great Britain and, although permission for supply of the

materials required was once granted, this was afterwards reversed making it impossible for your Conpeny to obtain most of the

materials, and in consequence of same the building of the ships have been greatly delayed, and the materiale required to complete the ships had to be ordered from Americs, with an additional price to be paid by the Norwegian owners of § £10,000 per ship, which amounts to 22% to 25% increase to the original prios for which the vessels were contracted. This additional price whe finally agreed to by the Forwegian shipowners solely in order to obtain early delivery of the ships, and thereby also greetly
